News and Events

CBC has been chosen by Southern Counties Baptist Association as Church of the Year for 2020/21!

Sunday Services

Our services are held in the Heart (our wonderful new worship space).  We are asking people to use the hand sanitiser provided and, if possible, wear masks when moving around the building. Wearing a face covering during the service is a personal choice.  There is a section of the Heart reserved for those who prefer to wear a mask and maintain social distancing.   If you have any questions about coming to a Sunday service, please email info@crowthornebaptist.org.uk

Our services are being recorded and are made available on YouTube as soon as possible after the event.

Crowthorne Late Night Shopping 3rd December

It was wonderful to be part of this popular annual event on the High Street and to be able to welcome lots of people into our new buildings. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with our beautiful (real) Christmas tree and Breakaway Brass playing carols in the Heart. Hot drinks, cakes and craft activities in the Hub were very much appreciated too.

Shine - Sunday 9th January

Is an informal family service from 9 to 10am, normally on the 1st Sunday each month in the Hub.  In January it will be on the second Sunday instead.

Starting with breakfast, it is a time for craft, play and reflection.  Why not give it a try?  (The following one will be on January 9th 2022.)

Induction Service for Kevin - Saturday 13th November

When Rev. Kevin Mills arrived in Crowthorne and started duties as our new Minister in December 2021, we were unable to hold a formal induction service for him because of the Covid-19 restrictions.  It was wonderful to hold this on Saturday 13th November. The church was full with CBC members, Kevin and Wendy's family and friends and visitors from near and far.

Rev. Joth Hunt (Regional Minister) presided at the induction and the speaker was Rev. Colin Baker from Caversham Baptist Church.  Kevin, Wendy, Colin and Joth are pictured here with our own Sarah Webb, who led the service.

Operation Christmas Child 2021- shoebox packing!

We have been collecting different items each month throughout the year and we held a shoebox packing session on Wednesday 27th October. 70 boxes in total from CBC will soon be on their way to children around the world.  There was a "send off" for them during our morning worship on Sunday 7th Novermber. Our boxes were joined by others from Crowthorne Methodist Church in the arrangement shown in the photo.

Dedication of our new building - September 12th

Our service on Sunday September 12th was a wonderful occasion when we dedicated our new building to God.  The church was full with current and past members and friends and special guests.  Our guest speaker was Rev. Lynn Green, the General Secretary of the Baptist Union.  We had a special feature in Wokingham Today.  The photos here are used with kind permission from the Editor, Phil Creighton.

Christian Aid Week Collection

A grand total of £2,682.82 was raised in Crowthorne in May for Christian Aid 2021!

This is an amazing sum, for which we praise God, beating the totals raised in 2018 and 2019 (there was no collection in 2020).  Thank you to all the volunteers from churches in Crowthorne, who worked so hard distributing the envelopes.

We shall never know how much was also donated online, prompted by delivery of one of the red envelopes.

CBC Open House - Saturday 22nd May

We were delighted to welcome lots of visitors from the local community to come in and have a look round our new buildings.

Wokingham Today featured CBC and our new buildings in April.  Read the article here.

Welcome Service for Kevin & Wendy Mills

The formal Induction Service for Kevin will have to wait until we are able to have larger gatherings and when we can meet together in our brand new buildings.  However, at 2pm on Saturday 19th December we held a live service to welcome Kevin and Wendy into our church at St. John the Baptist the Parish Church.  The service was recorded for those unable to attend in person - watch here.

Stars on Wildmoor Heath

On Saturday 12th December 2020, our Jesus & Chocolate young people's group and some CBC grown ups went into Wildmoor Heath woods and hung up 200 stars, which we hope and pray will bless local people.  The stars were there for people to take home and put on their Christmas tree or use as a decoration.

They were obviously popular, as on 1st January 2021 only 18 of them were left!

Boosts for New Heart Funding!

Two grant applications towards our building project have been successful so far.

The first was a cheque for £16,500 from the All Churches Trust which arrived at the end of June.

The second was from Laing Family Trusts who sent a cheque for £10,000 at the beginning of October.

We are very grateful to both of these organisations for their generous gifts - amazing answers to prayer.

Helping Hands at Wildmoor Heath School

Three members of our "Open the Book" team went to Wildmoor Heath school in September 2020 to clear up the weeds and debris at the entrance.  The Bible Society had suggested that the team kept up contact with the school and tried to bless them in some way.   Bill, Maggie and Janet were also able to chat with passers by and the roofers who were working at the school.

The transformation can be seen in the photos below.
