News and Events
CBC has been chosen by Southern Counties Baptist Association as Church of the Year for 2020/21!
Our services are held in the Heart (our wonderful new worship space). We are following advice from the BU and so we are asking people to continue to wear masks, if possible, when they are in the building and to use the hand sanitiser provided for the time being. We will also keep a record of those attending for track and trace purposes. If you have any questions about coming to a Sunday service, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Our services are being recorded and are made available on YouTube as soon as possible after the event.
Activities have restarted!
The Thursday morning coffee shop operates weekly from the Heart between 10:30 and 11:30am
Thursday Fellowship meets at 2pm in The Heart on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month
The monthly craft group meets at 1:30pm in The Heart on the 3rd Thursday of each month
Dedication of our new building - September 12th
Our service on Sunday September 12th was a wonderful occasion when we dedicated our new building to God. The church was full with current and past members and friends and special guests. Our guest speaker was Rev. Lynn Green, the General Secretary of the Baptist Union. We had a special feature in Wokingham Today. The photos here are used with kind permission from the Editor, Phil Creighton.
Operation Christmas Child 2021
If you already have or you get any shoeboxes which are ladies size and with a separate lid (not hinged) then please keep them until it is safe for our resident "wrapper" to cover them. By collecting different items each month throughout the year, it spreads the cost of packing a shoebox just before probably the most expensive time of the year for many people. In September we collect money to pay for the cost of sending the boxes (£5 each), but please feel free to collect whatever you wish at any time. Look at the Samaritan’s Purse website for ideas and guidance on things which are permitted and items that must not be included.
Christian Aid Week Collection
A grand total of £2,682.82 was raised in Crowthorne in May for Christian Aid 2021!
This is an amazing sum, for which we praise God, beating the totals raised in 2018 and 2019 (there was no collection in 2020). Thank you to all the volunteers from churches in Crowthorne, who worked so hard distributing the envelopes.
We shall never know how much was also donated online, prompted by delivery of one of the red envelopes.
CBC Open House - Saturday 22nd May
We were delighted to welcome lots of visitors from the local community to come in and have a look round our new buildings.
CBC in the News!
Wokingham Today featured CBC and our new buildings in April. Read the article here.
Welcome Service for Kevin & Wendy Mills
The formal Induction Service for Kevin will have to wait until we are able to have larger gatherings and when we can meet together in our brand new buildings. However, at 2pm on Saturday 19th December we held a live service to welcome Kevin and Wendy into our church at St. John the Baptist the Parish Church. The service was recorded for those unable to attend in person - watch here.
Stars on Wildmoor Heath
On Saturday 12th December, our Jesus & Chocolate young people's group and some CBC grown ups went into Wildmoor Heath woods and hung up 200 stars, which we hope and pray will bless local people. The stars were there for people to take home and put on their Christmas tree or use as a decoration.
They were obviously popular, as on 1st January 2021 only 18 of them were left!
Boosts for New Heart Funding!
Two grant applications towards our building project have been successful so far.
The first was a cheque for £16,500 from the All Churches Trust which arrived at the end of June.
The second was from Laing Family Trusts who sent a cheque for £10,000 at the beginning of October.
We are very grateful to both of these organisations for their generous gifts - amazing answers to prayer.
Helping Hands at Wildmoor Heath School
Three members of our "Open the Book" team went to Wildmoor Heath school in September to clear up the weeds and debris at the entrance. The Bible Society had suggested that the team kept up contact with the school and tried to bless them in some way. Bill, Maggie and Janet were also able to chat with passers by and the roofers who were working at the school.
The transformation can be seen in the photos below.
A Crowthorne Blessing
Churches Together in Crowthorne have put together a wonderful video of blessing for Crowthorne. This version was released in September and is based on the UK Blessing that was produced in May.
